Gathering at the waterhole
Gathering at the waterhole
Title: Gathering at the waterhole
Location: Etosha National Park, Namibia
Photographer: Graham Elliott
Elephants are the main reason I’ve visited Namibia and we were very lucky with the number of sightings we had in Etosha. These were the last elephants I saw before I left the park and they took their time drinking and throwing dust over themselves.
Elephants might look like they have very tough skin, but they can suffer from sunburn and insect bites. Throwing dust over themselves (and mud when available) is a way of protecting their skin.
After spending an hour or so at the waterhole, they gradually moved off. One female stayed behind the others for an extra drink before leaving. It was a very relaxing place to be, just watching and photographing these amazing animals.
This limited edition fine art print comes with a certificate of authenticity with hologram, photographer’s signature and edition number in series. These prints will not be offered for sale again once the current editions sell out.
