Caption: This young elephant is probably three or four years old and was in a small group grazing on the edge of a dried river bed in Namibia. This forms a natural highway and is used by the elephants to traverse their territory as they look for food.
We came across these two (and the others in their group; another can be made out in the background) early one morning when it was still cool enough for them to walk and feed. In the heat of the afternoon, they would often stand in the shade of the trees.
