Caption: Another photograph of Zulu, the dominant male lion in the small pride at the Kwantu Private Game Reserve when I was there.
I was in a small four-wheel drive and we were a few metres away from him. He was checking us out and was also quite unconcerned by us. The guides in this reserve didn’t get too close to the animals as this stresses them. This is one of the downsides to many safaris and national parks as guides will deliberately drive very close to the animals to try to get a reaction.
