Title: Wanderers
Photographer: Graham Elliott
Location: Namibia
Caption: This collection of old and young elephants were walking along the dried river bed as we overtook them. We’d been tracking them and came up from behind. This group were part of the larger herd and were crossing the river.
Tusk length is a general indicator of the age of an elephant, the shorter tusks belonging to the younger elephants. The young are likely to be a combination of male and female animals as males stay with the herd until they reach sexual maturity.
You can see the rocks and boulders in the background. This type of country was typical of much of the country where I spent my time in Namibia.
