Caption: This giraffe was enjoying this plant in South Africa near Port Elizabeth. Giraffes have very long and flexible tongues and they can be very adept at removing the leaves from bushes.
Giraffes have ossicones on the top of their heads and this is one way to tell females from males. Males will fight each other and this removes hair from the ossicones and even damages them occasionally. As females don’t fight, they usually have bushy hair on their ossicones.
