Title: Surfacing dolphin
Location: SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA
The common dolphin is my favourite dolphin. Most people think of bottlenosed dolphins when dolphins are mentioned but I find them to be quite drab looking (and they are also one of the more aggressive sub-species). The common dolphin has a dark back and light belly, with an hourglass pattern of light grey, yellow or gold in front and dirty grey behind on their flanks.
They are often depicted in ancient Greek and Roman art.
This dolphin is exhaling moments before breaking the surface. It is travelling very quickly and they can reach speeds of up to 60kph (37mph), making them very difficult to photograph!
