Caption: Another photograph of a hippo in the Chobe River. This was my usual view of hippos; just their eyes and the tops of their heads.
Hippos don’t swim, instead, they walk along the bed of the river they are in. This can cause problems as it’s often not possible to see where they have gone, or even how many of them are surrounding your boat! On one occasion I was in a small boat and we narrowly avoided being surrounded.
