Title: Hungry giraffe
Location: Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
This giraffe is likely to be a male. The clue is in the ossicones, the small horn-like projections. In females, the dark hair at the top tends to be quite bushy. In males it tends to be thin, mostly, it is thought, because it gets rubbed off when the males' fight.
There are currently nine sub-species of giraffe, the main differentiators being the location and the size and darkness of their markings. This is a Cape Giraffe (or South African giraffe).
Please refer to the “Sizing Guide” page for more information.
