Giraffe reflections
Giraffe reflections
Title: Giraffe reflections
Location: Etosha National Park, Namibia
Photographer: Graham Elliott
I find giraffes fascinating. They are a prime example of an animal that has evolved to occupy a specific place in their environment. It’s such a shame that they are now endangered.
The rather odd pose struck by the animal on the right is how giraffes drink. They splay their front legs to allow them to reach the water. This is a very vulnerable position and you can see that the giraffe’s companions are looking for predators. Having said that, they get most of their water from the leaves that they eat, so this minimises their vulnerability. Lions and hyaenas are their principal predators.
