Generations

This is one of my favourite photographs from this visit to Etosha. To me, the ground could almost be covered in snow, rather than the salt that gives the ground its colour.

I called this photograph “Generations” because of the mix of young and old elephants, and the fact that there were so many young and juvenile elephants to be seen. Elephants are a keystone species; which means that they have a direct impact on the flora and fauna of an area. If they leave an area, the whole composition of that area can change; different plants will dominate and this will determine which grazing animals can live there. This is why they are so important.
