Caption: Another black and white photograph. This elephant was photographed in South Africa and you can see the damage to one of its tusks. Tusks are used for many purposes and most elephants tend to favour one tusk or the other (much as we tend to be either left or right-handed).
This elephant presumably favours its right tusk although it’s possible the tusk was damaged while digging or engaged in some other activity. At the time we met, she was quietly browsing among some bushes.
