Location: Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
I particularly remember this group of giraffe while volunteering with the Nakavango Conservation Programme. We’d crossed the river to look at them and they made a graceful sight as they made their way along one of the vehicle tracks.
There are also some Kudu in the distance. After this shot, we decided to return to base only to find the river in flood (minutes earlier it had been fine). Water from central Africa had overwhelmed the dam upriver of us and was flowing over the top of it. It took us several hours to get back to base using an alternative route.
The title reflects the fact that giraffe are under threat, as are many of the animals in this collection.
